Nous avons réalisé un médaillon de notre Madone installée à la Chapelle St Hospice car nous croyons en cette protection de part le lieu et de part St Hospice qui vivait dans une tour en ruine au VI ème siècle faisant pénitence pour racheter la société dissolue et pouvoir adorer Dieu sans contrainte.
On raconte qu’il s’y produisit des guérisons miraculeuses, son culte se développa dans tout le comté suite à sa mort en 581.
La Chapelle, construite vraisemblablement en 1615 par Charles-Emmanuel1er de Savoie, est réputée avoir été érigée à l’emplacement de la tour ou avait vécu Saint-Hospice.
Le fort qui l’entourait et protégeait l’entrée de la rade de Villefranche fut détruit en 1706 sur ordre de Louis XIV.
De nombreuses processions furent organisées rassemblant des fidèles mais aussi pour contré avec espoir les sécheresses de 1806 et 1869 ou pour des épidémies de choléra en 1834.

La Madone arriva plus tardivement, en 1903, imposante et dominante elle regarde au loin donnant une vision plus ouverte à la Chapelle. ainsi Auguste Gal, négociant d’huile d’olive niçois fut son créateur et lui donna vie grâce au sculpteur milanais Galbusieri. Les croyances de protection et l’énergie vivante se dégageant de ces lieux avaient surement motivé cet enfant du pays à offrir une Madone tenant Jesus dans ses bras à notre cher St Hospice.

We have made a medallion of our Madonna installed in the Chapel of St. Hospice because we believe in this protection of the place and of St. Hospice who lived in a ruined tower in the 6th century doing penance to redeem the dissolute society and be able to worship God without constraint.
